A Low Phase Noise and High FoM Distributed-Swing-Boosting Multi-Core Oscillator Using Harmonic-Impedance-Expanding Technique

In this article, a distributed-swing-boosting and harmonic-impedance-expanding multi-core oscillator is proposed to achieve low phase noise high figure-of-merit (FoM), simultaneously. First, distributed-coupling topology introduced reduce the chip area with no mode ambiguity. Then, structure developed boost gate swing square-like waveform of $V_{\text {DS}}$ . The common-mode (CM) resonances around second harmonic differential-mode (DM) third are utilized suppress flicker up-conversion shaping. Meanwhile, dual-resonance response expands high-impedance frequency ranges harmonics, thus, effect shaping can be obtained over wide range. Fabricated in 40-nm CMOS process, measured exhibits FoM simultaneously compact size. minimum −138.9 dBc/Hz at 1-MHz offset, corresponding an 195.1 dBc/Hz. 1/ notation="LaTeX">$f^{3}$ corner 100–130 kHz 26.6% tuning
